Party Rock is in the House Tonight!

Hey Hey Hey!

So I am completely in awe of the fact that I'm at 800 views! Woot Woot! It has taken me a while to get to this point, but I'm super excited. Hopefully I'll be at 1,000 soon. Here's a couple of updates for now!

Everyone on the bus, headed to the game!

  1. Drake has new music...aigdadhfoigjiojasdgabbagabbagabba!! I am SUPER excited because I was starting to get just a little bored with Headlines. But that song is still great nonetheless! The first song, Club Paradise, is kinda chill and somber. It's more like the "new" Drake. The second song, Free Spirit featuring Rick Ross, sounds a lot like So Far Gone! Yay (: The final song, Waka Flocka's Round of Applause, which features Drake is....interesting to say the least. Drake's part goes real hard of course...but anything Waka Flocka is not so great (to say the least). Nevertheless, I'm super excited about Drake's newly released singles & extra pumped for "Take Care" (which comes out in 1 month & 12 days yay!)
  2. First home football game of the year! Woot Woot! Unfortunately we lost, due to a last minute fumble & a sucky offensive line. I was seriously hoping that we would win this game. We lost by 3 points :( Three points! I had lots of fun with my friends though (I got to see my Patrice who I've missed sooo much) & next week's game should be a definite win :)
  3. Party Party Party: So Friday night there was a hugeeeee frat party at the Delta Sigma house. There were sooo many people there. I had lots and lots of fun (: Then Saturday night we headed dt after the game. It was lots of fun! Two of my friends and I were at this club dt and they started playing LMFAO's Party Rock Anthem. My friend looooooves that song and immediately climbed up on a table & started shuffling. Well she shuffled too far to the right and fell off the table! Bahahahaha. The funny thing is that even though she fell and was wedged in between the table & seats, she was still singing and trying to shuffle. LOL! That was a very eventful night!
  4. So Far, So Good: So far sophomore year is great! I'm meeting so many new people, my classes are terribly easy (they're my final core classes before I enter my major) & I'm just living it up! I think it has a lot to do with the building that I'm living in this year. Last year my building was filled with lots of Sorostitutes (except for Inverness Hall & the 9th floor!), but this year a lot of my friends live on my hall & everyone is super chill. Thank God for that!
Welp, that's literally everything that I've been up to! Hopefully more interesting exciting news will be posted later!

xoxo,

Jackie

Back to College!

So I'm back at school again....WOOT! & I must say that this year is already 19234872394723497 times greater than last year. So many  of my friends live in my dorm this year & it feels like a party everyday. Last week I partied almost everyday to make up for my completely uneventful summer. Thursday a group of my friends & I went dt to a bar (right), headed to an Alpha Party & then acted like fools at Waffle House after. We even made grad school friends & took pictures with them! LOL. Friday, a group of friends & I went to my friend Alex's apartment & then headed downtown for another Alpha/Sigma party. That party was by far the BEST party of the weekend! Saturday was a big FAIL. We went to a Kappa party & it was super lame. But my friends kept me laughing, which made up for it. I'm looking forward to more parties coming up soon! Anywho...now that you're caught up with my life, here are some things that have been on my mind!

  • (Not so) Picture Perfect: This new picture tool on blogger.com is seriously annoying. I can't get my pictures to do anything that I want them to do :( If you have any suggestions, please let me know!
  • Va a Ser Abuela-Farruko: I cannot get this song out of my head....not that it's a bad thing :) Va a ser abuela by Farruko, one of my favorites newcomers to reggaeton, is such a sweet song.  Farruko brings something new  to his repertoire with this bachata song & I'm loving it. If you don't understand Spanish and thus, why I love this song so much, you can read the lyrics by clicking here.
  • Zumbaaaaaa! I am a huge fan of Zumba. If you don't know what Zumba is, it's an aerobic dance class which combines basic latin dance (such as merengue, salsa, cumbia & bachata) with  aerobics & hip hop. I went to my first class my junior year of high school & I have been going ever since...college. haha. If you read my post a couple of months back about the things that I wanted to do before the summer ended, you read about how I wanted to take a Zumba class. Well two months down the road and a day before I was ready to head back to college, I still hadn't taken a Zumba class :( Fortunately they have Zumba classes at my school, so of course I had to go! My roomie & I went last Thursday & it was AMAZING! If you've never been to a Zumba class, I would highly recommend that you attend. It is so much fun & it doesn't feel like you're working out.
  • Strip Aerobics? In addition to going to Zumba this week, I also tried something new & went to strip aerobics. LOL! You only live once right? There's a dance studio in my college town that hosts a free class week at the beginning of each semester & I decided to try something new...very new. I went with my roomie & my neighbor! Even though I was a little anxious when I first walked into the class (I literally had no idea what I was getting myself into), the class ended up being really fun & an excellent workout. We started out with a high intensity warm up  & then learned a choreographed routine to Lady Gaga's You and I (click here to listen!). It was super fun & I will definitely be attending again.
  • Classes! So my classes so far have turned out to be fabulous! I am really loving them so far. We'll see if I still feel the same way by the end of the semester. Hah ;)
  • Real Housewives, where are you? I am EXTREMELY excited for the premier of the next season of the Real Housewives of ATL. Please hurry up!! Also, I'm pretty excited about the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, but sad to hear that Taylor Armstrong's husband committed suicide, allegedly because of his marriage being played out on television. This is extremely tragic. It's sad that Russell Armstrong felt that the only way out of dealing with his marital problems was by committing suicide. & it's also extremely sad that the media would portray him in a such a way that would drive him to commit suicide. How is Taylor supposed to explain her husband's death to her young daughter? :(
Welp, I hate to leave on a sour note, but that's all that I could think of for now! Have a great weekend!

xoxo

It's time for School!!!

Hey Everyone (:
First of all, did yall notice the new look? I decided that it was time for a new background & layout. I hope yall like it. Just thought I'd point that out. Anyway...

It’s that time of year again! School is starting soon and all of you upcoming freshies probably have no idea where to start when it comes time to buy things for your dorm. As I'm preparing for my sophomore year,  one of my cousins  who is starting college asked me to make her a master list of things that she would need for college. I decided to post it on here in hopes that it will make someone else’s life easier too.

Enjoy (:

Things you need for college (in no particular order)
1.       Shower shoes (especially if you have yucky community showers like  I did)
2.       A good pair of tennis shoes. My school is super hilly. Often times girls try to walk around in sandals, flats and other non walking type shoes and end up being on crutches because of excessive stress in the arches of their feet
3.       A Broom (if you have tile floors in your dorm)
4.       An area rug (if you have tile floors in your dorm)
5.       A mini vacuum, if you decide to purchase an area rug
***Note: with both the broom and the vacuum, you can just stick it out and mooch off of your dormmates for their brooms/vacuum. My roommate & I didn’t have a vacuum, so we just borrowed from our friends J
6.       Cleaning items:
a.       Windex (we used windex wipes. They come in handy for cleaning mirrors, dirty laptop key boards, desks etc),
b.       dish washing detergent (even if you’re on the meal plan, you’ll prob have some plates, cups etc  from going out to eat that you might want to  wash and reuse)
c.       Air freshener (I bought a big spray bottle of febreeze and it lasted the entire year)
d.      Lysol spray
7.       Rain Boots and a good medium sized umbrella- trust me, these are a must! Remember you have to trek across campus to all of your classes, regardless of weather. Nothing sucks more than sitting in a freezing cold classroom for an hour with wet tennis shoes/sandals. Also, clear dome umbrellas are really popular on my campus because they come down over your backpack & keep you totally dry.
8.       A good alarm clock. Some people just use their cell phones, but I’m always scared that something might go wrong. I use my I-pod dock’s alarm and it never fails me.
9.       A desk lamp for when your roommate is sleeping and you are up studying.
10.   Toothpaste, deodorant, fluoride rinse, soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, cocoa butter, Vaseline/chapstick etc (it’s easy to forget the basics)à I went to Sam’s Club and bought jumbo family sized products to get the most for my money. Then I bought travel sized bottles and containers to keep them in so that I don’t have to lug huge bottles to the bathroom every day.
11.   Razors, q-tips  cotton balls & nail polish remover (I am slightly obsessed with nail polish)
12.   Sanitary napkins, Tampons
13.   Hair bands, hair products, brush, comb, rollers, sleep scarf, shower cap
14.   A shower caddy. Mine is a big pink plastic one that came from bed bath & beyond. Also one of my neighbors gave me a monogrammed makeup bag that I also use as a shower caddy
15.   Vitamins, Tylenol, midol, allergy meds, Benadryl, inhaler, epi pen. If you have allergies/medical issues, make sure that you make a detailed list of all your allergies, medical needs and give a copy to your roommate, her/his family & maybe even your Resident Assistant. Ask for the same from your roommate. This way, if something happens to you, your roommate will know what to do.
16.   A Laptop & Printer (you don’t have to get a printer, but it makes things a lot easier if you have one of your own. I have one that is a copy machine, scanner and printer all in one. It’s a big investment, but you save a lot of money and time in the end because you don’t spend extra time and money trying to find a place to print or paying extra to print/copy.
17.   Printer ink
18.   A good lap top case
19.   Notebooks, college rule paper, printer paper
20.   Jump drive
21.   Wipes and hand sanitizers (they really come in handy, esp. if you don’t have a sink in your dorm)
22.   Casual, casual, casual clothes! College is super casual. I wear nothing but shorts/jeans/sweats and t-shirts. Bring a couple of dressy items for interviews/worship. Also don’t forget to bring a couple of items for when you go out with your friend. When you have limited space take only items that you are gonna wear. Try to find pieces that you can make lots of outfits with. Solid colors always work because you can pair them with multiple things. For example, I have a short black pencil skirt that I can match with lots of different tops for party nights. Also I have running shorts that can work for going to class, hitting the gym & lounging around the dorm.
23.   Snacks for your room and a case of water.  (Sometimes you get hungry when you’re up late studying & the dining halls are closed).
24.   A mini fridge (You may want to hold off on purchasing one. Your roommate might end up purchasing one and you can share with her.  Also, I didn’t waste time purchasing a microwave because our floor kitchen has one)
25.   a good id holder key chain. You can put your id and money in it & then you can put your keys (& I even put on of those pocket back hand sanitizers) on the key chain. This way you don't have to carry around a purse all the time.
26.   A lock for your closet door...so that when you go home your stuff will be safe.
27.   A damp rid. It's the little plastic container that you put on the floor in your closet. It soaks up all of the vapor in your closet so that your clothes don't get all mildewy. At the end of the year, both my roomate & my damp rids were full to the top with water that had been soaked up.
28.   Space saving hangers
29.   Over the door hangers for shoes...I put my medicine stuff into it. :)
30.   Oh I thought of more things.
31.   1.  A mattress topper (like an egg crate foam topper or even one of the more luxurious ones is great). Trust me, your bed is gonna be soooo uncomfortable.
32.   2. A couple of sets of sheets so that you can switch them out.
33.   3. A comforter, usually most dorms need size twin xl, but I would check with your school to make sure.
34.   4. An extra blanket to put under your comforter for the winter. Because if you're like my school, they might wait until 2 weeks before Christmas to turn on the heat -___-
35.   5. A throw for when your doing hmwk in your room & it's cold. Can you tell I'm cold natured? lol
36.   6. A bedside organizer. If your bed is lofted you can put this on the end of the bed & store your cell, books, water bottles etc so that you don't have to climb down in the middle of the night.
Happy Shopping Everyone!!!

summa summa summa timee yay!! :)

Alright I'm really sorry. I admit that I'm probably the suckiest blogger of all time! I haven't blogged in about 3 months but I promise it's all for good reasons. For my second semester I ended up with 3 As, an A- & a B. Woot woot :) Gahh I'm trying to think of what I need to write to fill y'all in. I'm pretty good at making lists so here goes nothing:

1. My dorm for next year= WIN! So I was a little upset at first because we my roomate (& two other friends who were supposed to be roomates) ended up not getting into the dorm that we had originally intended to be in. However, we ended up getting into the dorm that almost all of our friends are going to be in. Plus it looks like a freaking hotel room. YES! :)

2. They murdered Osama Bin Laden? What? I really can't believe that that happened. But I'm also worried. What could possibly happen later on? I'm going to leave it up to God & pray.

3. Dude, why wasn't this # 1? I'm done with freshman year!!!! Ahhh! I can't believe how fast this year flew by. It seems like yesterday we were packing my things to come to school. My roomie & I had to repack things gradually and ultimately it was more hectic unpacking that packing. It was soo sad to say goodbye to all my hallmates :( We were all super close & next year we'll all be going to different places. Sara, Peep Courtney & Katie to their sorority houses, Patrice, Karlea & Suzanne (my roomate from this year) to apartments & Rachel & I to other dorms on campus. I'm just hoping that we'll have reunions here and there, but we'll see what happens. My RA & I said a sad goodbye to each other on the last day of packing :( But ultimately I must say that I had a great freshman year & I'm looking forward to another great year next year :)

4. I went natural for an entire month. Natural...as in no heat whatsoever for almost 5 weeks ;) Currently I'm in my second trial run of no heat. I'm trying to make it through the entire summer but we'll see how it goes! I will definitely provide updates soon & I plan on dedicating an entire future post to natural hair. Please stay on the look out.

5. I'm currently on an Adele high right now. Gosh all of her music is AMAZING. At first, I didn't really like 21 (I was a huuuugeee 19 fan). However, I must admit that it's warming up to me. ahhhh she is amazing. & she is going to be in concert at a place near me very soon...hopefully another concert is on the way.

6. Speaking of concerts, I saw both Big Sean & B.O.B. live in concert this semester. I really loved B.O.B. I didn't know a lot of songs by him, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I found out that he is such a talented artists. He raps, sings & plays the guitar. & oh lawd, speaking of guitars...his guitarist (the one with the dreads) was fiiiiooooonnneeee. Oooh-wee..that man could play the guitar to me all day long. Ahahahaha. But overall I was really impressed with him. Big Sean was great too! & I touched his shoulder! woot woot.

7. Incubus has a new cd coming out. *Screaming* Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully Incubus concert #2 in the making :)

8. If there is anything that I learned in college, it's not to be afraid to try something new. I know that this sounds completely cliche...really cliche. But I'm serious..the best way to have a great time in college is to let go of your past ways & try something new. Expose yourself to something so different than anything you've ever done. Step out of your comfort zone. You'll find that there is a whole new part of you that you didn't know existed. Stepping out of my comfort zone came when wearing my hair completely natural. People loved it! But ultimately it's not about what others think. It's about what you want & what's best for you. And when you can accept that & find confidence in who you are, you'll find that others will have a greater respect for you as well. With confidence you can convince anyone of anything :)

Welp, that's all folks!!

love love love

Awee Man!!

My last music post wasn't as big of a hit as I expected it to be so I've decided to take a stab at it again and amp my posts up with some pictures, links & more details. Here are some of my recent faves (both past & present). Enjoy & don't forget to click on the links!

Chuleria en Pote-Jadiel & Farruco: Here's to all of you reggaeton lovers! This is probably one of the most chill reggaeton songs that I've ever heard. It's a great start to your morning & a great cool down to your evening. It definitely hints to reggaeton's reggae roots as well.

Bang Bang Bang!- Mark Ronson, The Business International & Q-Tip: This song has been out for seven months now but I'm just now hearing it & hearing it & hearing it. It's on constant replay on my ipod. It has an addicting chorus & I love the part in French. Je Te Plumerai La Tete!

No Games- Serani: Once again I'm late....real late. Apparently this song was a smash reggae hit over the SUMMER OF 2010. But in my defense, all of the songs that I've covered so far are foreign made, so my excuse is that it took a long time for these songs to reach the states. Originally I heard this song in Zumba class. It was our cool down song. Then at the Unity Ball (more info on the unity ball in the post below!) I heard this song again and went on a desperate search rampage to find it. Twenty search entries with wrong lyrics, pulling up various websites & youtube links and a headache later, voila! Enjoy.

Skinny Genes-Eliza Doolitte: I took a random chance with this song when it popped up on youtube's suggested videos list the other day & I completely fell in love. I am a big fan of Lily Allen. However, she hasn't come out with a cd since her last, 'It's Not Me, It's You." If you like Lily Allen or Kate Nash I can guarantee that you will fall in love with Eliza Doolittle. She has the sweet voice or Lily Allen, although she can't quite pack the punch that Lily does. But for the time being she's perfect!

In the Morning- J. Cole ft. Drake: So I'm pretty sure that I've made it clear that I'm in love with Drake and we are going to get married one day. With that proclamation of my love set aside, I luhhh this song! It is soo nasty, but addicting at the same time. This is another relaxing song (frankly, any Drake song is relaxing to me lol). In this one Drake teams up with up and coming Roc Nation signed rapper J. Cole, a college grad who is proving that he is talented both academically and musically. In addition to this song, J. Cole's entire Friday Night Lights mixtape is great and he also has another mixtape Cole World, which I haven't had the chance to listen to yet, but I'm sure is great as well. Btw I am super jeally that the two are touring Europe together for the next several months. Why Europe Drake!?!? Do they even know who you are there? Come back to America, NOW!! (<--- no offense intended, just a joke!)
SN: College is the perfect time to explore your tastes in music. I mean MTV has an entire channel devoted to University music. At my school there are lots of local bands who hold concerts downtown, parties with lots of fun music and so many new people to meet and explore their tastes in music (and maybe even influence your own tastes). Also in college, music= fashion. As a suggestion before coming to school, buy a shirt with your favorite musician, band, or artist. You're guaranteed to get compliments + it's a great conversation starter.
I am always looking for new music, so if you have any artists that you want me to listen to or include in my next post, feel free to drop a line in the comment box.
Enjoy!

Go girl, it's ya birthday!

Hey there Everyone!

January 21 was my birthday! Yay! It just so happened that my birthday fell on a Friday & I only had one class, so needless to say, it was amazing! :) But before we talk about my birthday weekend fun I'm gonna back track to a couple of days before. The previous Friday was my college BFF Melanie's birthday so we decided to do something together. On Monday, we grabbed a group of our friends and headed to our favorite restuarant downtown, Doc Chey's. It was yumm and a good bit of our friends showed up to celebrate with us. Afterward Alex took us to get icecream at Ben & Jerry's & we jammed in the car to Whip My Hair. lol!

The next day, our basketball team played Tennessee so I headed there with Melanie, Natalie & another friend, Quatez. We lost by two points which were scored literally at the last second of the game...bummer! But on the plus we had great times & we had Cane's before...mmm. haha.

Now we can skip to the good part...back to my birthday :) So after a whopping 365 days of waiting Friday finally rolled around. It's a tradition at my school to head to the 24 hour dining hall minutes before your birthday to ring in your birthday at midnight! I grabbed the girls on my hall and Natalie and Melanie tagged along too. We crammed like 7 people into my roomates car and drove over to the dining hall. I was so excited that I was running around and jumping in the air like a little kid. But it was worth every second of excitement. Two of my friends met up with Melanie and I at the dining hall after the other girls from my hall headed back to the dorm. We talked about our home towns and then walked back to our dorms, waving at people who had left their windows open/blinds up in the dorms along the way (bahaha lame). When I got back to my dorm I was literally so excited that I couldn't sleep. Fb wall posts started flooding in & I was so excited for the events that were to come. But I forced myself to fall asleep around 2 so that I would have at least a tad bit of stamina for my class at 10:10.

Even though my class didn't start until 10:10, I was so excited that I woke up at 8 and couldn't fall back asleep. Spanish was my only class of the day & luckily it's my fave. I could dedicate a whole separate blog entry to my Spanish teacher. She is amazing! After class, I went to lunch with my roomie & then headed back to my dorm. I was a little upset. My roomie had to head back to our hometown for a wedding ceremony & Melanie was also heading back. Then I got a text from my friends in my hometown letting me know that they weren't going to be able to make it up to celebrate with me for my birthday. But, I wasn't about to get upset on my birthday. Luckily, I brought 16 candles and me & Natlie watched it and cracked up! No birthday could top Samantha's!

After sitting around bored waiting for the night to come, me & Natalie headed over to the nicer dining hall to eat with some friends. We ended up sitting with one of Natalie's friends and met new people! Yay! Afterwards, Natalie & I made a last minute decision to head to our school's gymnastics meet. They competed against Auburn (and won! woot!). They were AMAZING! I think that they are probably the most talented team at our school. There were two girls on Auburn's team that were great on the mat as well. One girl, who was black & hispanic like me (woot woot!), performed to a fusion of hip hop and reggaeton, which hit home for me :) I was really glad that we decided to head to their meet.

Then the real fun came! My friend Alex wanted to take me downtown to one of the clubs called Bad Manor. Me & Nat got dressed up real cute & headed to his dorm for some pre club fun and picture taking! haha. Then we headed downtown. They played Fancy (Drake ahhh), Stereo Love, and even a remix of the Red Hot Chilli Pepper's Otherside so you know I got it crunk! They were playing all of my favorite songs. woot woot! I had so much fun dancing like a fool. I even saw some of my other friends there too. It all seemed to fly by. It was probably 1 out of 2 of the best nights I've had in college so far.

Side Note: For girls who are going to the club. Here's all that you need:

PMILK

P=phone
M=money
I=id
L=lipgloss
K=keys

There is really no need for anything else. & please don't chug a giant purse with you. It's totally unnecessary & your shoulders/back will hurt by the end of the night!

& back to my birthday....so the next day my parents and brother came up from my hometown to celebrate with me. I brought Natalie along with us and we headed to Olive Garden. The Olive Garden in my college town is really beautiful. Rather than having the appearance of a restaurant it resembled someone's nicely furnish home. It was nice to spend time with my family. We spent our time amusing Natalie with our funny family jokes & stories and singing to Craig David on the ride there. I had a really good time!

After Olive Garden we headed back to campus to help set up for my school's Unity Ball. I'm in the Black Affairs Council's Cultural & Social Progamming Committee, which hosts various programs throughout the year. The Unity Ball is held annually in order to celebrate the anniversary of the desegregation of my school, hence the name unity. It's a formal event and most people dress like they're heading to prom. This year it was co sponsored by three other commitees so we had a really turn out of people. At first I was slightly skeptical because we hadn't sold a lot of tickets. However, it was a pleasant surprise when tons and tons of people walked through the door. The decorations were beautiful, there was a section to have your picture taken, a dj, & dinner was served. Best of all the people that came were MULTIRACIAL!! If you knew me before college, you would know that my group of friends from my hometown is very multiracial and we pride ourselves upon that. So it was great to see a group of people that reminded me of my closest friends from home. I had so much fun dancing with all my friends. The dj was awesome and played an awesome mix of hip hop, top 40, reggae, and even salsa!! I taught my friends how to dance the salsa to Celia Cruz's 'La Vida es un Carnaval' (and afterward me & Natalie even had an impromptu salsa lesson in my dorm lol), we danced the electric slide to my parents' favorite song (Taste like Candayy), danced to my new favorite reggae song (No Games) and Melanie taught us how to do the wobble. I was actually sad when the night was over.

Overall I had a great birthday weekend & I doubt that anything could top it :)
Thanks to everyone who made my birthday great ;)

Until later!

Jackie

Snow!!!!

"Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!"

Hello Lovers!

Originally I was supposed to start school on Monday. But on Sunday rumors began swirling left and right that snow was on the way. Luckily mother earth allowed my parents enough time to drive me to campus and back home before the snow came. And boy oh boy did it snow. We received about four to five inches of snow Sunday night. Where I am from it rarely snows. Normally we receive snow once every four years. However, last year it snowed so far this winter season it has snowed twice...in a period of two weeks. It snowed the day after Christmas as well as Sunday night. However, because of vacation and returning to college, I missed the snow both times in my hometown.
Yet there was plenty of snow on campus. Sunday night my roommate, next door neighbor and I were watching the Real Housewives of ATL (our normal Sunday night tradition) and on a commercial break, we peaked outside to see the snow. There were huge white flakes pouring out the sky. We were so excited that we all started screaming and jumping on the top of our lungs and our RA ran into the room and told us to be quiet because it was "quiet hours" (yet, I doubt that anyone was being quiet or sleeping during all of this). We (+ some other girls from my hall) all jumped into our winter clothes and headed out to see the snow.
Sunday night was lots of fun. There were over 100 students playing in the snow on the hill outside of my dorm. Students took the tops of storage containers, cardboard and whatever else they could salvage to sled down the hills. We threw snowballs at each other, made snow angels and wrote on cars in the parking lot. That night was probably one of the best nights of my college life thus far. When we came in from playing in the snow, we all received an e-mail letting us know that school had been canceled for Monday. Yay!
The next morning my friend Natalie and I woke up early to take pictures around campus. We walked around our dorms, North Campus, and at the football stadium. Natalie attempted in vain to make a snow angel. It was hilarious. The ice was crunchy so she could barely move. Her snow angel ended up looking more like a snow cheerleader. We watched an upperclassmen who had a kayak slide down a hill and crash into a fence lol (he was okay).
Although the snow was fun, things began to get serious. Although the snow melted during the day, it froze that night. We walked to the dining hall to eat dinner and people were slipping left and right in the ice. Thank god that everyone who I saw slipping in the snow was able to laugh it off and wasn't seriously injured. School was canceled again today (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday). Today I spent the day inside with friends. I'm beginning to get bored & am actually ready for school to begin. Lol!

I hope you enjoy this & if it's snowing/sleeting in your area please be careful but have fun!

xoxo,

Jackie

Apologies...Do you forgive me?

First of all, I am soo soo soo soo sorry for not blogging in such a long time. The past three weeks consisted of me studying for finals and then coming home & doing absolutely nothing for an entire week (ahh freedom!). However, during my jail break, you probably noticed that I completely neglected my blog, including my thirty day picture challenge. Again, I am so sorry. I vow to restart my picture challenge so that I can complete it! But for the time being, let me catch you up on my life.
Let's go
back a month ago to Thanksgiving. I
spent the week in Delaware with my favorite cousins. It's a family tradition to head up to Delaware to spend time with my family. Because I'm now in college, we only had several days to spend with our family this year. But not a day was spent in vain. We had a yummy Thanksgiving dinner consisting of turkey, collards, sweet potatoes, salad, dinner rolls, macaroni, stuffing, and my favorite, cranberry sauce.
I actually watched the entire Macy's
Thanksgiving
Parade for the first time in many years (I have had bad past experiences with that parade). Kanye West's performance, as well as Keri Hilson's performance, was interesting. However, overall, I still felt that same bubbly feeling inside that I always felt when I watched the parade as a child.
The rest of our trip to Delaware was spent participating in some quality family time. We watched the Wizard of Oz and my four year old cousin made the comment that she didn't like the wicked witch of the west and, "Why is she green? She's not supposed to be green. She's supposed to be brown." Hahaha. Oh, the things that kids say :)
We said our good-byes and headed back home. I had one day to spend at home & then it was right back to school for study study studying. I had a portfolio to create for lit which consisted of seven edited essays which demonstrated my work over the semester. In addition, I had finals in pre-calc, interpersonal communications, and spanish 2002. It was a stressful and demanding two weeks. By the end of finals, I was sick of dining hall food, stress eating, the cold & my dorm in general. On top of all of that I became sick (gross!) But overall they ended up being farely successful. I made pretty good grades on the majority of my exams. I am now a first year sophomore and if things continue to head in the direction that they are going in now, by the fall 2011 semester, I will be a junior. Yet I am not completely satisfied. I've made a list of things to do in order to improve my grade [and hopefully these will help you as well].
  1. Buh-bye Facebook: I'm going to temporarily delete my fb during the week (so that I can't receive any notifications, and thus have no need to use fb) and I'll use it only on the weekends.
  2. Study Hall Here I Come: On Mondays and Fridays I have only one class, so I plan on spending my time after class in the study rooms in our student center.
  3. More Structured Weekends: My weekends are going to be more structured. Now that there are no more football games, there should be less distractions. I will devote more time on the weekends to studying.
I am confident that my plan is going to pay off. As long as I adhere to my rules, everything should be fine :)
And now you are brought back up to speed :) Last week I spent my time relaxing, facebooking, and basically catching up on all of the things that I hadn't been able to do. In addition, I was dragged all over my hometown shopping for Christmas gifts. Now I am in a hotel in Pennsylvania waiting to visit my family. More updates will be coming soon!

Fact v. Fiction: College Edition

So we've heard all the myths. They say college is just like it is on tv. There are hott boys/girls everywhere. There's a party every night. Everything about college is fantabulous. I'll admit college is WONDROUS. But let's get reasonable. Here are five facts and five myths that you should know about college:

Facts:
1. There are fine boys everywhere: Yeah, it's true. If you're like me, you've probably been stuck with the same boys for the past four years of your life. College is a fresh new start with fresh new faces. But remember, boys will be boys & not everyone is going to be your knight in shining armor. Keep your options open and don't be afraid to tests the waters.
2.
You will be broke as a joke: Money is soooo tight in college. After your first month of college, you'll find a new appreciation for Mr. Washington. So if you haven't started college yet, I'd advise that you save as much as possible. You'll appreciate it later.
3.
Free at last! There is sooo much freedom in college. Mom and Dad won't be there to tell you where, when, why and what to do. But remember, college isn't your own separate planet away from the Earth. Use common sense when making decisions :)

Fiction:
1.
College is too hard to handle: So yeah, college is not easy. You're gonna have to work harder for the grades that you made in high school. But college is nothing to sweat about. In high school, you were in class for 7+ hours. On average, you might have 1-4 hours worth of class per day in college. Think of all the extra time that you have to study! College is all about organization.
2.
There is a party every night: Although it may seem like it on tv, this is definitely not true. I go to the biggest party school in the United States and trust, there are nights when Athens is DEAD. But that doesn't mean that there isn't anything to do on campus. Join a club (they have activities all the time). Walk around campus & introduce yourself. Explore your college town. You'll find that there is so much to do even in the smallest of college towns. Plus, you should be studying anyway ;)
3.
Everyone drinks: Once again, considering that I'm at the biggest party school in the US, this is def not true. I've met plenty of people who drink and plenty of people who don't drink. If you feel awkward being the "only one" not drinking, stop being a punk. Take a sip and suck it up. JUST KIDDING. Find a group of like-minded people who don't drink. This way you won't feel so awkward. Plus, it is sooo much fun to laugh at the drunk people, while YOU'RE sober.
